Youth Development Conference

The Youth development conference was organised by the youth development foundation, a youth initiative in the northern provinces of Afghanistan. Founded some years ago, they are a completely youth run organisation with offices in most of the northern cities. They try to bundle the voice of the youth, as well as provide them with all kind of political and social knowledge, organise workshops and conferences etc. At this conference youth from all northern provinces came together to think about their contribution towards the development of this country.

The representative of the foundation visited us in the AIESEC office some two weeks back and invited us to the conference as they are very eager in helping us to put up offices in the northern universities. There generally students have much less opportunities than in Kabul where most of the international aid and initiatives are focused on.

Going to the conference was a really nice experience. I met so many nice, really enthusiastic and motivated young people. Learned so much more about the problems young people outside of Kabul are facing, about problems in the educational system of Afghanistan (during a meeting with the minister of education, Karzais Government, as the ministry’s work and plans were questioned strongly) and also improved my Dari – unfortunately still not good enough to have a conversation.
